Interesting facts of marriage and family condition in Hong Kong

During the 15 years from 1981, the marriage rate of male is lower than that of female. However, the rate of man and the rate of women were same in 1996. From then on, the number of men who got married among 1000 males has been bigger than the number of women who got married among 1000 females.

During 1981 to 2010, remarriage became more and more acceptable. The number of the type that first marriage of bridegroom and remarriage of bride increase rose sharply, which was 3,955 in 2010, more than twice as much as 1,404 in 1986. Furthermore, 6,498, the number of the type of first marriage of bride and remarriage of bridegroom in 2010 is even nearly five times as 1,377 in 1986. The number of the type of remarriage of both parties soared to 6,189 in 2010 from 552 in 1986.

The number of divorces is 2,062 in 1981 and then rose year by year that reaches 18,167 in 2010. The growth rate is much bigger than the different kinds of growth rate about marriage.

The median age at first marriage of female in 2010 is 28.7 which is older than that in 1981, 23.9. And the trend of male is same as female that the median age at first marriage is 27.0 in 1981 and 31.2 in 2010.

The median age at women at first childbirth in 1981 is 25.1. During these 20 years, women delayed their first time of childbirth and the median age at first childbirth in 2010 is 29.9.
